SALEM ACADEMY STUDENTS ENGAGE WITH LATIN CULTURE
Salem Academy Charter School learn about Latin American Culture in Melrose, MA through ballet performance.
Salem, MA, 1BApril 27, 2018–On Thursday, November 2nd, the 8th grade Spanish class at Salem Academy Charter School traveled to Melrose, MA to experience Latin American culture through a dance performance by the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet. The students then enjoyed an authentic Dominican lunch catered by Celia’s. Afterwards, we debriefed what we saw, learned, and experienced. Students were able to note differences between Hispanic cultures and their own cultures in terms of food and dance. They also discussed what culture meant to them and how food and dance can influence how we live our lives and see the world.All students developed a deeper understanding of theLatin cultures that surround us in the Northeast and paved the way for greater understanding of the Latin community in Salem and the world.

Estudiantes de Salem Academy experimentan la Cultura Latina Eljueves, 2 de noviembre, la clase de español del 8 º grado en Salem Academy Charter School viajo a Melrose, MA para experimentar la cultura de América Latina a través de un espectáculo de danza por el Hispanic Flamenco Ballet. Luego los estudiantes disfrutaron deun auténtico almuerzo dominicano de Celia’s. Luego, conversamos sobre lo que vimos, aprendimos y experimentamos. Los estudiantes fueron capaces de notar diferencias entre las culturas hispanas y sus propias culturas en cuanto a comida y baile. También se discutió sobre lo que significó para ellos y cómo las comidas y bailes pueden influir en cómo vivimos nuestras vidas y como vemos el mundo. Todos los estudiantes desarrollaron una comprensión más profundadelas culturas latinas que nos rodean en el noreste y allanó el camino para una mayor comprensión de la comunidad Latina en Salem y el mundo.
